How to make a geometric wreath and shapes

I’m so in love with this geometric wreath and shapes. I have been wanting to try my hand at making these geometric shapes for a long time.  I tried so hard to source the brass tubing that is so popular for these hanging geomantic shapes but it is so pricy.  So I did what anybody eles would do who is on a budget and used straws.  I was working with a very darling modern bride who did not want a tradintional wedding.  And a mother of the bride who did.  I think that these little touches gave the bride the modern edge she was looking for and with all the fresh flowers and gorgouse center pieces the mother was happy as well.

the fun thing about making these shape is just experimenting with your straws.  The first shape I made was a diamond but Ill explain the hexagon.

1. cut all your straws the same size you will need 15
2. cut about 2 yards of wire,  I used different sizes of wire cause that’s what I had on hand, but if I had to do it again the medium weight wire seemed to work best.
3. I started with a simple triangle and twised it off at the end
4. then added two more straws and attached them to one side of the triangle
5. I did that a few times till  I had 5 points
6. then you need to thread the wire down through one of the straws and  have it come out in the middle of the point
7. thread one straw on and connect to the next point
8. do this four more times until it creates the star.

9.if you want to make the wreath only do four of the sides and leave one open.  You will have to wire them together after you make 7 of the stars.  but its worth it look how cute it is!!!

I really like the idea of spray painting the straws to match the wedding, how ever if you wanted that silver or gold look just get the metallic gold spray paint from  Rustoleum  you can find it at amazon if its not at Home depot. Some times its hard to find, go figure, and happy geometric shape making.
