How to make your own Beachy wooden bead light fixture.
I’m almost done with my master bathroom renovation. It has taken a few years to get the big things done but it’s finally done and I love it! I didn’t want to go into debt renovating this bathroom so I made lots of hard decisions on what I wouldn’t give up and what I could do without. What I couldn’t give up was my light fixture. Its the main focus of the room and cast the most amazing shadows. Its made with wooden beads and stung around a darling gold chandelier. I was smitten!
My style is very eclectic and I’m not sure if it’s always the style of the minute, but I love it! (Shouldn’t your home be about you and what you love?) Alright back to the tutorial on how to make your own beachy light fixture. I needed a small version of my stunning chandelier in the main part of the bathroom, for the little toilet room. The matching one was 385$ I just didn’t want to pay that much since I budgeted only 100$ for that light. So this is how I did it.
I bought a light fixture that resembled the one I wanted and it was 70$ from Home depot.
I had to paint the base of light with a bit of gold paint so that it would match the antique look of the main light fixture. That was free because I had the paint but If remember right it’s around 10$ from Joanns or here at Amazon. I just painted on a few coats to take the edge off the silver. I love that you can change the look of metal just by a little paint.
Then I had to remove all the crystals so that I could begin stringing the wooden beads. I did trying bending the jump rings and taking off the crystals that way but it took way too long, so I ended up just cutting them off with some wire cutters. (which took about 5 min to do the whole light)
I used heavy wire to restring the wooden beads back onto to the light. I wrapped the wire around the end twice and tucked the ends to the inside of the light. I think the hardest part was figuring out the pattern of the beads.
I left the beads raw and now the only thing that i don’t like is the crystal at the bottom, that will go as soon as I make a cute little tassel out of tinny small wooden beads, or maybe leather I haven’t decided. Since this bathroom is completely for me and my hubby, I feel like the choices we make should reflect what we want and what we love! For me its a light bright space that reminds me of a beach house, cause that is my happy place and I need a bit of happy in my life every day. want right?
